A different kind of HEALING Art

When I first started the healing art centers I had a vision for using many natural ways as a means to help people heal in ways they didn't even know they needed healing.  One of the best ways I have found is through ART Therapy.  ART can be a very deep and meaningful form of meditation.  The definition of meditation is:

"Any process of which the mind can quiet and Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Meditation may be used with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and pain, and increasing peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being.  Meditation is under research to define its possible health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other effects.  "

Some people think that to meditate you have to sit in a quiet room, close your eyes, hum a mantra and be bored out of your skull for minutes to hours.  But my perception of meditation is anything that takes me out of my problems, issues, daily dramas or old traumas.

I find that art is my mediation.  Well so is music, so the best of both worlds is to combine them of course.

I am an ARTIST!  There, I said it.  And you are too!  We are all artists we just have to fine our ART.  For me it is oil painting, playing my guitar, writing, learning something new and my latest passion... renovating old dollhouses.  Somehow I combined my love of art with creating something tangible that I can step into with deep dimension and free myself of any thoughts other than what I am creating before me.  It helps with self esteem, confidence, self-awareness and creativity.

This is one that I just finished.  My brother found it on Craig's List and was so excited to bring it to me, so of course it had special meaning.  All of these have special meanings as they are a reminder of a love dollhouses as a child.  My  grandfather built one for me for Christmas every year from the age of 7-13.  That said when I was grown I was still lugging around 6 dollhouses.  That became a bit cumbersome and so slowly I started giving my beloved treasures away to little girls that I knew would cherish them.  Something I plan to do again.

I had long forgotten my love of dolls and honestly the art of PLAY, which is another well researched and effective form of healing...   Then last year a lady, in my painting class told me she was renovating her childhood dollhouse and about the world of miniatures and the current rising number of hobbiests around the world doing it... and decided that I was a 50 year old woman going on 7 at heart, so why not.  Then I set out to find one, and let's just say,... I was hooked.  This is actually not a hobby for children as there are a lot of power tools and intricate details to build.  In fact I nicked myself last week with a wood cutter.  Definitely not for children unsupervised.  LOL

I made it an adventure to find dollhouses on Facebook marketplace, Craig's list or anywhere that was posting old dollhouses for sale.  My boyfriend and I have had a blast traveling all over different states to pick them up.  You never know what you will find when you are going into stranger's homes and discovering treasures.

I have found my meditation in playing in these houses.  The distractions of the houses make my whole day fall away.  Anything that you can do with great focus that brings great pleasure is MEDITATION!

If you'd like to see some of my renovations... I'd love to take you on a little journey if you'd like to email me and see some of the fun photos I have taken of my projects...and if you are starting to think I have lost my mind.. (and trust me that's not always a bad thing for a few hours). so have literally thousands across the US and the world.  It's a "thing" believe me.  Just go out and search on the internet.  It's fascinating.

So, I hope I have convinced you that ART comes in many forms.  And that art and play are meditation.  To find that creative part of yourself is to find yourself.  It has been said that

"Life is not about FINDING yourself, but CREATING yourself."

Create something beautiful.

Much Love,

Dr T
